Context

The Telecom Networks division of Tyco Electronics (TE) provides end-to-end network accessory solutions for copper, fiber, coax and wireless telecom networks. Products include network accessories for central offices/head ends, outside plant and customer premises. The division has a strong growth strategy that is driven by deeper fiber penetration in broadband networks (FTTx) to increase bandwidth.

To implement the divisional strategy and to further develop the business, we want to strengthen the product management team with a product manager. He/she will support the product segment manager to implement the product segment strategy of the respective product group. The candidate will report to the Product Segment Manager.

Job Description

* implements the product line / market segment strategy
* Understands future market trends
* Understands strengths and weaknesses of competitive products
* Creates the TE value proposition
* Defines the roadmap for the product

* Manages the P&L / improves the profitability of his product lines / market segment:
* Drives continuous cost reduction for his product lines
* Sets priorities between projects competing for the same resources
* Rationalizes his product lines and optimizes business processes to:
o reduce the support costs in R&D and Operations
o reach the required service levels while optimizing cost and working capital
* Initiates product development projects and participates in the execution:
* Develops the business case for the project and defends it to senior management
* Defines product requirements
* Works with sales, R&D and Operations to create and execute the integrated project plan (incl. activities, milestones, dependencies, people and financial resources, risk management)
* Is the interface to customers and sales
* Executes projects as the sales & marketing core team member, or as the core team leader

* Supports sales
* Prepares marketing literature (presentations, data sheets, brochures, web)
* Presents to customers, participates in customer meetings and negotiations
* Gives training to sales
* Works with sales to respond to tenders (product configuration, compliance, pricing, commercial conditions, profitability)
* Responds to questions from sales and customers about products and applications

Profiel:
* Good strategic thinking, strong analytical skills
* Strong entrepreneurial drive to grow a business
* Business experience in a similar business environment is a plus
* Preferably telecom experience; as a minimum: interest in telecom and technology
* Strong communication skills
* Strong learning “on the fly” capabilities
* Strong team player, “natural” team leader
* Pragmatic: keeps feet on the ground, can implement
* Education: preferably engineering degree, business degree is a plus
* Prepared to travel up to 30% of his/her time
* Fluent in English and minimum two other European languages
